Recycled Silk Sarees To Beautiful Carpets
In our endeavor for a sustainable economy we have developed a range of carpets that have been manufactured by hand using hand spun silk yarns made using shredded silk end of life saree. The beautiful colors in the rug reflect the diverse colors from the sarees shredded to make the yarns,
Kāṣāya
Kāṣāya are the robes of fully ordained Buddhist monks and nuns, named after a brown or saffron dye. The eri cocoon which grows in the wild is hand picket from the forests of Assam ( after the PUPA has left the cocoon),these cocoons are then converted to silk yarns ( also known as AHIMSA yarns)to manufacture the Kāṣāya fabrics in the most ethical and sustainable way.
Recycled Yarns From Silk Waste
Not all of the cocoon is reeled into the filament yarns, there is a waste of 30% which is converted by us into a lustrous silk spun yarn. These yarns produced from silk waste are very soft and moisture absorbent. The yarns are used to manufacture silk/wool shawls/stoles and beautiful knitted sweaters. The traditional Persian hand knotted carpets get their fineness and vibrant colors thanks to the use of these spun silk yarns.
